Brick walls. Cobblestone. Center stripes on the highway. Clouds scudding across the sky. Raindrops and puddles, spreading circles. Our lives are filled moment to moment with patterns – sounds, sights, textures, emotions that come together to create a life. We are seldom aware of these patterns as they happen. Occasionally we’ll glimpse the connections. My intention is that my work be a record of specific moments in time, the time encompassed by the act of painting, drawing, scratching, scumbling. The image in most cases coalesces near the end of any session. The images are discovered through the painting process and then refined. The history of the creation lies just below the surface, covered by paint. Although these works can be seen as metaphor, they live also as artifact, as meditation, as offering.
